Allow regular time for silent reflection. Turn inward and digest what has happened. Let the senses rest and grow still.
Black Lives Matter: Truth, Solidarity & Reparations
In the wake of the unspeakable actions of those who hunted down and murdered Breonna Taylor, Nina Pop, Sean Reed, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, Alliance for a Viable Future stands in solidarity with all Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). We stand for racial justice and reparations for all people of color.
The purpose of this blog is to be a resource for Podcast Episode #18: Black Lives Matter, in which I read passages or made reference to the following:
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail. And, while I didn’t reference it specifically in the podcast, I also highly recommend listening to his Love Your Enemies speech.
Beyond Fear: Twelve Spiritual Keys to Racial Healing by Aeeshah Ababio-Clottey and Kokomon Clottey.
The Case for Reparations by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Video: The Contract Buyers League about fighting redlining in Chicago
Heather McGee of Demos, Keynote Speech “Who is an American?”
White Men & Native America: An Unlikely Alliance by Lev Natan
Inspiring resources to TAKE ACTION:
Demanding Community Control from the New Economy Coalition
A list of direct action from the Wild Earth organization
A message from Van Jones on the Pachamama Alliance
Ways to Engage Right Now from the Collective Impact Forum
Thank you for your efforts to educate yourself and stand in solidarity. Racial Justice and Climate Justice are deeply connected. In fact, they are one in the same. We will have a viable future only when we have both.
A Simple Life
If you want to be free, learn to live simply…Use what you have and be content where you are. Quit trying to solve your problems by moving to another place, by changing mates or careers…Eat food grown locally. Wear simple, durable clothing. Keep a small home, uncluttered and easy to clean…Of course, the world is full of novelty and adventures. New opportunities come along every day…So what?
