How your financial donation makes a difference

By generously offering your financial support, your organization will help ensure Indigenous People’s Day (IPD) events continue to be a staple in the Berkshires community.

But why is this important?

Observing Indigenous People’s Day is a step toward truth and reconciliation in response to the immense harm done by colonization to Indigenous people that still affects the entire community - indigenous and non-indigenous people alike.

It moves members of the community from being a passive observer to establishing relationships and connections. It’s empowering for everyone.

Additionally, part of our IPD observations include welcoming and empowering members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, the original inhabitants of the Berkshires, and in doing so, fostering an environment of healing for the generational trauma inflicted from being forcibly removed from their homelands.

What does it have to do with the climate crisis?

Systemic racism and the climate crisis are two sides of the same multifaceted coin - a result of the long history of colonialism that disregards people and the planet.

By working to foster unity and reconciliation, we are working to create climate solutions that start with empowering people, healing communities, and connecting the dots between issues that we have been incorrectly taught are unrelated.

About Alliance for a Viable Future

AVF brings together a network of indigenous creators, spiritual leaders, activists, and thought-leaders to engage citizens throughout the Berkshires and the entire Northeast in a collective effort to amplify our bioregional climate leadership. Our climate emergency requires grassroots solutions - organizations and businesses working hand-in-hand, with each other, to solve local problems and fuel positive impact.
